brusalan Whettman Chelmets is always exploring the boundaries. He has the songwriting skills and the extensive knowledge necessary to write songs in a variety of styles and to make them all work. This is an artisan at work and well worth a good listen. Favorite track: Recollections Suite.

Tichounko Though this one has been a fresh additton to my collection of Whettman's cassettes, it's getting rubbed off already. What a great idea to use your own recordings from 20 years ago and make something brand new but still familiar and old in the best sense... Since his last album, avid listener Chelmets has been influenced, among others, by The Caretaker and this album goes deeper and touches old memories we either have or that were implanted to us by our ancestors. Impressive endeavor, hats off. Favorite track: Recollections Suite.

Allister Thompson This is pretty ridiculously good. Sometimes sounds like Tim Hecker, sometimes like Stars of the Lid...sometimes like Krautrock...but all pure Chelmets! Hazy, mysterious and deep, like a surreal dream you didn't want to wake up from. Favorite track: recall (outro)/The Swimming Hole.

On "Doesn't Remember...", the Joplin, Missouri-based multi-instrumentalist revisits four-track tapes he'd recorded some twenty years earlier. Essentially plundering his own phonics, these provide a starting point for seven atmospheric, constantly-changing, richly-textured mutations. Sounding something like undersea symphonies, perhaps halfway between shoegaze and vaporwave, the album rewards repeated, close listening with blissed-out glimpses of time-warped memories that feel both recognizable and completely new.
