about

Click, clack, clickety, clack, clack. It's a sound we've all grown to be familiar with in recent years. On tiny-pebbled paths encircling some lesser Schloss and purpose-built concrete causeways through the black-earth Spargel fields of Rheinland-Pfalz, these carbon-composite poles propel us on a steady march as Nordic-Walking progresses further and, indeed, further into the very essence of what we believe ourselves to be. From it's humble beginning in Finland, where it initially served as an off-season fix for impatient cross-country skiing enthusiasts, Nordic-Walking has grown into the premier low-velocity pole sport in Central Europe. The shuffle of Adidas Terrexes. The rustling of nylon windbreakers. Steady respiration of cool, morning air.

But the music... where is the music?

Strategic Tape Reserve ACTIVE, a sports-music subsidiary of STR Holdings, has set out to prevent people from ever asking that question again – by providing the music. Inspired in part by the stunningly influential "Jock Jams" series which came out in the 20th century, we have sought to compile an assortment of music to stimulate, invigorate, challenge and enrapture today's Nordic-Walkers. No hillock is too steep and no 5k Rundgang is too long when you've got the power of song. Just strap on your Walkman and walk, man.

"These Carbon-Composite Poles Are Made For Walking" is the first and only cassette scene compilation designed specifically to enhance the Nordic-Walking experience. With over 52 minutes of audio, it will provide sufficient sound for footpaths even at the upper-intermediate level. It includes music from artists working in a variety of styles from ambient to folk to glitchy noise techno and nearly everything in between. Spaced evenly throughout the compilation are six interludes featuring Nordic-Walking experts and celebrities offering tips, commentary and philosophical asides.
